Micro Labs has commissioned its formulation unit at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh and the active pharma ingredients (APIs) plant at Bommasandra in the outskirts of Bangalore.
While the former is set up in the Himachal's excise free zone at an investment of Rs 25 crore, the latter is set up on the land allotted by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board. At the Baddi unit the company will manufacture its range of products for domestic market. The unit at Bommasandra will not only produce APIs for its range of formulations but also provide the same to formulation companies in the country, stated G Jayraj, general manager, Micro Labs.
Micro Labs already has 9 facilities: four units in Bangalore, one each at Kumbalgod on Mysore Road, Hosur, Goa, Pondicherry and at Baddi. In addition, it has set up two units in South Africa with local partners for the production of formulations.
The company manufactures and markets a wide range of products for different range of therapies and age groups. It has over 300 widely accepted brands under its label and many more in the pipeline. Its therapy areas cover cardiovascular, gynecology, gastroenterology, dermatology, ophthalmology, neuro psychiatry anti diabetic, antimicrobials, antiseptics, nutraceuticals, analgesics/antipyretic and anti-malarials.
In May this year, the company introduced a new ophthalmology division, Micro Lumira. The drugs will be manufactured at Micro Labs' state-of-the-art eye drop facility at Bommasandra which is Asia's largest set up with an investment of Rs 70 crore. The facility has been designed in line with the world's quality accreditation requirements of different regulatory bodies like US FDA, UK MHRA, etc. The capacity of the unit is four lakh bottles of ophthalmic preparations a day. The facility has latest technology with best equipment Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Japan etc. Some of the equipments are - Form Fill Seal, 3 PC filling/Stoppering, Vial and AMP Filling, Washer /Tunnel and Sealing, HPCL etc. The facility runs with zero human intervention during the process.
